The economic catastrophe in Venezuela has created a severe shortage of food and medicine. The currency has collapsed completely, the result being a humanitarian crisis which has brought the country to the edge of mass starvation. SAVING LIVES IN VENEZUELA is a spiritually-inspired charitable organization that ships food, medicine, baby formula and other necessities into Venezuela, and distributes the items to those most in need. Our primary focus is malnourished children and their families. (On the left are before & after shots of one of our 'miracle babies.' Yes, it's the same child! The top photo is from when we first found him; the bottom photo is after 4 months of treatment with our high quality baby formula and a special supplement we shipped in that's specifically designed for malnourished children.)
To date we have shipped in over 10 tons of supplies. We have teams of volunteers in four Venezuelan cities that receive what we send and distribute the items to the poor in their areas. Our teams visit children's hospitals, giving gifts of diapers, diaper rash cream, baby food and baby formula to all in need, and give antibiotics and other medicines directly to the doctors. On other days they make large pots of nourishing soup or vitamin-enriched macaroni & cheese, and feed people on the street, or in nursing homes, or in slum areas. We are also providing special support for pregnant women, including vitamins and hygiene products, which most Venezuelans can no longer afford.
My name is Ram Das Batchelder, I'm an American by birth, and my wife Tarini Ma is from Venezuela. Although we live in India, we spent a couple of years in Venezuela together, where we co-taught a university course. When I read in 2018 that many babies were dying in Venezuela due to lack of affordable baby formula, we decided to raise money to send in a shipment of formula and protein powder. One Facebook post was enough for our first shipment, and our work has expanded exponentially from there. We have been blessed with amazing support from numerous friends in both Venezuela and the US, who have volunteered to donate food, money, and dedicated, selfless effort towards making this project a success. With your support, we will continue to expand, and be able to save the lives of more children.
Our team in Caracas visits hospitals regularly, delivering food, medicines and supplies to all those in need. They also offer bi-monthly checkups for the many children in our "Saving Lives" program in their area. They are supplying food to a shelter for homeless teens and also a school of 200 poor students. They've done a fantastic job!
Our team in Barquisimeto is truly tireless in their service to the poor. They are out on the streets daily, bringing food and medicines to those in need. They visit nursing homes and the poorest areas, and in addition to distributing food, they have assembled a team of barbers to give free haircuts to one and all! Bravo!
Our team in Merida frequently prepares large pots of food to feed poor children and the elderly. They also visit hospitals regularly, and do extraordinary work in helping the children in our Saving Lives program. They often hike long distances to bring food into secluded areas where impoverished families live. Heroes all!
Our team in Yare is doing a fantastic job of feeding the poor in their area. They specialize in working with handicapped children, and recently hiked a long distance to bring food and hygiene products to three orphaned children living alone in a secluded house. Great work!
Our team in Boston is headed by the amazing Linda S. Lloyd, who runs a local food bank. She has donated hundreds of boxes of high protein, fortified packaged meals for our work, as well as baby formula, and medical supplies. Her husband and adult children have also rendered amazing service. Thank you!
We've been blessed to have the services of two wonderful drivers, who have made numerous trips from the Boston area to Miami, towing large trailers. One of them, who wishes to remain anonymous, lives in Texas, and has made 5 trips from Texas to Boston to Florida and back, and took no salary. Extraordinary selfless service!
Floyd Hammer and Kathy Hamilton, the founders of the globally-honored Outreach Program, recently donated 3 full pallets of their specially designed meals for our use in Venezuela. That is over 44,000 servings of food! The Outreach meals are specially designed to be easy to cook, and to provide extra vitamins, minerals and protein -- perfect for the needs of poor families in Venezuela. We are grateful for their extraordinary work, and hope to cooperate them in the future to bring the Outreach meals to the poor of Venezuela on a larger scale.
Our gratitude to Floyd and Kathy, and to the entire Outreach team!
Thank you!
Your donations will go directly to the poor of Venezuela.
